What data is stored

The extension stores only the following on your device using Chrome’s built-in chrome.storage.local API. This data is never transmitted anywhere.

Data What it is Where it lives Transmitted?
usageLimit Your chosen daily usage limit in minutes Device only Never
breakTime Your chosen break duration in minutes Device only Never
elapsedSec Current session usage counter in seconds Device only Never
isOnBreak Whether a break is currently active Device only Never
breakEndTime Timestamp of when the current break ends Device only Never

That’s the complete list. There is no other data. No browsing history. No page content. No identifiers of any kind.

What the extension accesses and why

Chrome extensions must declare what they access. Here’s an honest breakdown of every permission Touch the Grass uses:

Permission Why it’s needed What we DON’T do with it
storage Save your settings (usage limit, break duration) locally on your device Never sync, upload, or share your settings
tabs Detect whether your active tab is a social media site so the timer knows when to count Never read tab content, URLs beyond domain matching, or browsing history
scripting Inject the break overlay screen into social media pages when your limit is reached Never scrape content, execute remote code, or interact with page data
Host permissions
(social media domains)
Required to display the overlay on supported social media sites Never read page content, logins, messages, or any user data from those sites

🚫

What we never do

  • Sell, share, or transfer your data to any third party
  • Use analytics tools (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or similar)
  • Track which sites you visit or how long you spend there in aggregate
  • Read the content of any web page you visit
  • Access your social media accounts, posts, messages, or credentials
  • Use remote code β€” all extension code is bundled and reviewed in the package
  • Run background network requests to any external server
  • Identify you in any way β€” there are no user IDs, no device fingerprints, nothing
  • Store data in the cloud or any external database
  • Send crash reports, telemetry, or usage statistics anywhere

Third-party links

The extension popup includes a “Buy Me a Coffee” button that links to buymeacoffee.com/zerentalabs. This link:

  • Only opens if you explicitly click it
  • Does not automatically send any data to Buy Me a Coffee
  • Is governed by Buy Me a Coffee’s own privacy policy once you visit their site

The extension also credits zerentalabs.com in the popup footer. No data is transmitted when the popup opens.

Children’s privacy

Touch the Grass does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Because we collect no data whatsoever, there is no special handling required for any age group. The extension is safe for use by anyone.

Changes to this policy

If we ever update this privacy policy, we will update the “Last updated” date below and post the revised version at this URL. Given that Touch the Grass collects no data, we do not anticipate meaningful changes to this policy.

Any future version of this extension that introduces data collection would require explicit disclosure and user consent before collection begins β€” which we have no plans to do.
